The semiconductor manufacturing industry continues to progress rapidly, with standards, materials and requirements evolving annually. Industry leaders leverage novel solutions to overcome their challenges. To serve the leading companies, its partners must be both innovative and maintain a deep understanding of client needs, which can only be cultivated through a close relationship. Manufacturers need partners whose systems are optimized for their needs, not just compatible.
Founded as a trading company in 1987, KCTech transitioned into manufacturing in 1992 and has become a leading manufacturer of advanced equipment for chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) and CMP slurry materials, for the semiconductor and display industries. The company offers integrated solutions that enhance wafer quality, precision and manufacturing yields. Vice Chairman Ho Keun Yang states that the company’s position as one of Korea’s most competitive suppliers of slurry and CMP solutions is largely due to the founder’s customer-centric philosophy. “Building long-term relationships with clients, rather than chasing short-term profits, has always been a core principle for us,” he says.
KCTech’s close cooperation with its partners through joint development programs (JDPs) has pushed the company to enhance its technological capabilities and build trust in its products. “This trust, combined with our accumulated experience, gave us a significant competitive edge in the global market,” Yang explains. With demand for semiconductors continuing to soar, driven by the mobile and data center markets, the company’s advanced CMP technology has become invaluable for the Korean industry. Its ceria-based slurry is developed entirely using proprietary technology. It is highly regarded in the Korean and global semiconductor industries for its superior performance in key parameters, including dishing control, removal rate and scratch minimization. KCTech also develops slurries for tungsten and polysilicon and plans to develop slurries for copper and other advanced materials.

On the equipment side, KCTech has completed the development of its new flagship system, the VENTUS CMP System. It delivers a 30 percent efficiency increase on previous models, which Yang says positions them well against global competitors. The system is uniquely equipped with a modular cleaning system, with up to 12 configurable chambers, and includes a cutting-edge multi-zone polishing head with in situ zone control capability.
The after-polish can be customized to the client's specifications. Combined, these technologies enable precise and efficient planarization processes required in advanced logic and memory device fabrication.
This granular level of specificity reflects KCTech’s customer-centric mentality. Equipment and slurry are both critical components, and challenges are inevitable. “Since we work with the same clients across both product lines, communication is seamless and collaboration is natural,” Yang says. Through this customer focus, the company has developed deep trust and long-term partnerships with its clients. Because each customer has highly specific needs, close partnerships are crucial in tailoring equipment and materials to their ever-evolving requirements. Yang dismisses the notion that KCTech simply provides bundled solutions, as semiconductor technology is complex and the reality is more nuanced. “True synergy doesn't come from packaged solutions but from our deep integration of product development and R&D.”

While continuing to develop its domestic capabilities, the company has turned its attention outward to developing its global partnerships in response to challenging economic headwinds, especially in the United States and Japan. Yang says the company plans to open an office in the United States to improve its service quality and responsiveness to client needs, “Our goal is to offer service levels comparable to what we already provide in Korea.” He describes the company’s strategy as focused on a select few partners, allowing KCTech to deliver highly specialized verifiable solutions.
The industry is continuing to develop at breakneck speed, with emerging technologies like AI driving a global hunger for increasingly advanced semiconductors to supply data centers. Manufacturers need partners, such as KCTech, who can develop advanced solutions tailored to their specific needs.
